Fact: human beings are driven by two basic instincts: survival and reproduction; nothing you can do to change that. Before we even know it our brains have asked four questions – Should I kill it? Can I eat it? Can I bonk it? Should I trust it?
Fact: If you can’t get people’s attention – you can’t influence them.
Fact: One of the best ways to get people’s attention is to be recognised as the go-to expert in something that interests them.
In a technologically noisy world, it is just too easy to get lost in the marketing clutter and feel invisible.
Your business is not beige, or boring, or the same as every other business in your field so why ‘toe the line’ and do what they do? There has never been, nor will there ever be, another you in the history of the world. No one else on the planet has your skills, your experience, your perspective or your unique approach to how you and your business serves your clients. So why the big secret?
Just like trying to write your own resume, starting with a blank sheet of paper and trying to work out what your, and your businesses, stories are (without feeling like you are showing your knickers) can be overwhelming, let alone quietening the voices in your head saying “You’re not a go-to expert!!! Who gave us permission to stand out from the mob? People won’t be interested!!! I will look like a numpty” … or “What if it works?”
Imagine if, the very next time someone asked you what you and your business does, you were able to tell them – not a statement of your job title and a list of the services you provide but a clear and relatable response that left them with no doubt that you are a valuable resource, not a vendor or a commodity, and the ‘go-to expert’ in your field. And that you had this same magnetic presence consistently across all your marketing platforms as written copy, audio, video, Facebook, Instagram – the list goes on, all as repurposed assets.
You are not the hero of your business story, your clients are; your role is to be their guide, a go-to expert in your field, so opening share what you know through your social media channels, your newsletter and at any other opportunity you have to interact with you clients and potential clients.
